Le Premier ministre grec Georges Papandréou s'est affirmé prêt jeudi à retirer son projet de référendum sur l'euro en affirmant que la question de la participation de la Grèce à la zone euro ne se posait pas, a indiqué un communiqué de ses services. - "Même si nous n'allons pas à un référendum, qui n'a jamais été une fin en soi (...), je salue la position du parti de l'opposition de la droite" qui s'est dit prêt à ratifier au parlement l'accord de la zone euro du 27 octobre, a indiqué M. Papandréou au conseil des ministres, cité dans le communiqué.
Il a souligné que "la question de la participation de la Grèce à la zone euro allait de soi" et que l'enjeu était d'assurer la mise en oeuvre du plan anti-crise élaboré par la zone euro à Bruxelles la semaine dernière. "Si on ne respecte pas nos engagements, c'est là que cette question serait en jeu", a affirmé M. Papandréou. L'éventualité d'un référendum, qui a semé la panique en Grèce et dans la zone euro ces derniers jours, a été sèchement reçue mercredi à Cannes par le couple franco-allemand Angela Merkel-Nicolas Sarkozy et la patronne du Fonds monétaire international, Christine Lagarde, principaux bailleurs de fonds du pays. N'excluant plus une sortie du pays de la zone euro, les créanciers ont suspendu mercredi soir le versement de toute aide financière dans l'attente d'une clarification de la volonté des Grecs sur leur soutien au plan de désendettement du pays, négocié à Bruxelles par les 17 pays de la zone euro et des dizaines de banquiers. Le Premier ministre s'est dit prêt "à parler avec le chef de la droite (Nouvelle démocratie) Antonis Samaras pour avancer sur la base d'un (gouvernement) de consensus". Il a proposé que deux de ses proches, "le ministre des Transports Dimitris Reppas et son conseiller Nikos Athanassakis se chargent des négociations avec des responsables du parti de droite sur cette base". "Je crois en ce moment historique que les partis politiques peuvent se mettre d'accord", a souligné M. Papandréou. Deux heures auparavant, M. Samaras avait proposé la formation d'un gouvernement de transition qui aurait comme mission d'abord la ratification de l'accord européen avant le déroulement d'élections législatives anticipées. "Là où on en est arrivé avec la politique du gouvernement (socialiste), le nouvel accord sur la poursuite de l'aide à la Grèce est inévitable et il faut le garantir", a déclaré M. Samaras. (afp) |
